Dry Eyes Meet Their Match

Have you ever experienced itchy, dry eyes? You’re not alone.

Dry eye is a common condition many Americans face as a result of poor quality tears. There are 2 general causes of dry eye: your eyes aren’t producing enough tears, or your eyes are producing low-quality tears.

Your tears play an important role beyond emotional release. They are responsible for keeping your eyes hydrated, lubricated, and comfortable. Your tears should mostly be staging in your eye, covering it with a combination of aqueous (watery) liquid and oils (mucous).

Our highly-trained team is here to make your eyes feel more comfortable. If you are experiencing any discomfort related to dry eyes, we will assist you in finding your solution.

Feel Familiar?

You don’t have to experience the whole list of symptoms to be diagnosed with dry eyes. If you experience one or more of the following, you should speak with your optometrist about finding a solution.

Your eyes may experience:

  • Stinging
  • Burning
  • Scratching
  • Redness
  • Foreign object sensation
  • Light sensitivity
  • Temporarily blurry vision
  • Eye fatigue
  • Overly watery eyes
  • Poor night vision
  • Uncomfortable contact lens wear
  • Stringy mucus

What Causes Dry Eyes?

In the right combination, 3 layers work together to provide you with lubricated eyes and clear, comfortable vision.

Your tears are made up of 3 parts

  • Fatty oils
  • Aqueous fluid (water)
  • Mucus

When any of these parts are out of sync, either underproducing or overproducing, it can cause dry eyes.

Causes of tear film dysfunction can include:

  • Hormone changes
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Inflamed eyelid glands
  • Allergies
