Screens, Screens Everywhere

Look to your left. Now, look to your right. How many screens do you have around you right now?

Digital eye fatigue, or digital eye strain, creeps up on us the longer we’re looking at our computers, cellphones, and TVs.

But there are certain things you can do to help prevent digital eye strain at home and in the office. To get a detailed assessment of your eyes and specific recommendations on reducing digital eye strain, come talk to us.

Are Your Eyes Feeling the Strain?

Sometimes it’s called computer vision syndrome, sometimes digital eye strain. Whatever you want to call it, it can be uncomfortable.

Digital eye strain presents itself in many ways. Some of these symptoms can include:

  • Strained eyes
  • Headaches
  • Blurry vision
  • Dry eyes
  • Neck & shoulder pain

What You Can Do

Luckily, you can make changes in your work environment and daily routine to help mitigate the effects of digital eye strain.

Try some of these solutions to keep your eyes feeling comfortable:

  • Change the brightness of your screen to match the lighting in your room
  • Position your screen to reduce glare caused by windows or lighting
  • Keep your screen clean from dust and fingerprints
  • Make sure you’re using the right prescription for glasses or contact lenses
  • Keep your distance from your screen
  • Adjust your seating to prevent head movement and straining your neck

You can also practice the 20-20-20 rule to give your eyes a break. After 20 minutes of looking at your screen, take a look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This gives your eyes a chance to readjust.

Find Your Solution

Our eye doctors are here to help you find your solution to digital eye strain. We may ask you questions about your digital usage habits at your eye exam to determine any factors that could be aggravating other eye symptoms like dry eyes.

Ensuring your eyeglasses and contact lens prescriptions are up to date can also minimize eye strain in daily life and in front of the screen. We want to help you see the best you can see and feel comfortable doing it.

Talk to us about your digital eye strain, and let us help you find your solution.
