We follow a process that allows you to explore your contact lens options and ensure you’re wearing a contact lens that aligns with your lifestyle. Since contact lenses come in many styles and sizes, your optometrist will want to make sure that your eyes are as comfortable as possible in your lens choice.
This is why we offer comprehensive contact lens exams—to make sure your eyes are healthy enough to support contact lenses.
The Contact Lens Exam
Our comprehensive contact lens exam will check for any changes in your sight, assess the overall health of your eye, and complete any necessary testing you may require.
Your optometrist will write a contact lens prescription for you that is different from your eyeglasses prescription. These 2 prescriptions are different because of the distance each lens type is from your eye.
To prescribe the correct type of contact lenses, your optometrist will ask you questions about your wearing habits. Your answers will help them decide whether you should be wearing daily, weekly, or longer-wear contact lenses.
If you’re already wearing contact lenses, your optometrist will update your prescription, and you will be welcome to purchase contact lenses.
If you’re new to contact lenses or you’re changing the type of lenses you wear, your optometrist will get you started with some fitting lenses, to see how they work for you.
Fitting Lenses
A new contact lens prescription sometimes requires an adjustment period. Many factors go into finding the right type of contact lens that will ensure you see clearly and feel comfortable throughout the day.
Once your optometrist writes your prescription, you will get to experience the contact lenses with a trial pair before you purchase a larger supply. This gives you the freedom to decide if they are working for you. If not, we can adjust the prescription and find something that does.
Sometimes, the fitting lens process takes a few tries to set you up with lenses that work best for you.

Wow! What an amazing office. I have been looking for an eye doctor in Columbus since I moved. Dr. King-Smith is so friendly and inviting! Eye exam was all typical, however what really made them stand apart was the staffs genuine desire to connect with me. They have great equipment that will give you increased information about your inner eye health that I have not received before at other offices!
